Mark Kolpack – Visual Effects Supervisor & Storyteller
Since 1985, Mark Kolpack has brought stories to life through a seamless blend of artistry, technology, and cinematic vision. Starting his career as a union film editor, he honed his craft in storytelling, camera work, and film opticals—skills that would become the foundation for his award-winning work in visual effects. With an editor’s eye and a filmmaker’s sensibility, Mark approaches every shot with a deep understanding of how it’s designed, photographed, composited, and delivered for maximum impact on film or HD.
In 1992, Mark joined legendary director Joe Pytka’s commercial production company, PYTKA, as Visual Effects Supervisor and head of Post Production. Collaborating with top creatives, he brought to life groundbreaking spots for Nike, McDonald’s, Apple, Levi’s, Pepsi, and more. His work on Nike’s The Wall earned the coveted Palme d’Or at Cannes in 1994. After PYTKA, Mark expanded his influence in the commercial world, partnering with acclaimed directors and shaping high-end campaigns for major global brands.
Hollywood soon came calling. In 1995, Mark contributed to Batman Forever under visual effects icons John Dykstra and Eric Durst. The following year, he co-founded Perfx, delivering VFX for clients like Visa, Lockheed Martin, HBO, and Ford, while also earning industry recognition—including a Silver Promax Award and an International Monitor Award nomination. Perfx also expanded into feature films, contributing to Blade, Rush Hour, and the main titles for Godzilla.
Mark’s television credits are equally impressive. He served as Visual Effects Supervisor on Season 1 of Heroes—earning a 2007 Emmy nomination—and has led effects for Commander in Chief, NCIS, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and HBO’s The Life & Death of Peter Sellers. For Disney ABC, he supervised No Ordinary Family, orchestrating 1,500 visual effects shots in just one season.
From 2013 to 2019, Mark was the driving force behind the visual effects of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., supervising every episode across seven seasons, directing both a webisode and the episode “Code Yellow.” His recent work includes Raising Dion (Netflix) and a variety of film projects, from The Box and The Ugly Truth to World’s Greatest Dad.
Whether crafting superhero showdowns, cinematic main titles, or emotionally charged drama, Mark Kolpack combines technical mastery with visual storytelling that resonates. His work doesn’t just enhance the scene, it becomes part of the story itself.
